Colors: A Reflection on Unity, Diversity, and Love
Several years ago, as I strolled along a tranquil trail behind
my home, a captivating sight unfolded before me. Thousands of birds filled the
sky, seemingly converging directly in front of my path. As I continued my
journey along the river, I stumbled upon a park that bordered its banks. There,
I was met with a breathtaking spectacle – thousands of birds divided into two
distinct groups.
These avian communities, although appearing identical in
species, had separated themselves by color. A striking divide stretched 25 feet
between the groups, with white-feathered birds on the left and their
dark-colored counterparts on the right. I observed in amazement, waiting to
witness if any bird would defy this self-imposed boundary, but not a single one
did. It was then that the age-old adage, "birds of a feather flock
together," took on a profound meaning.
The peculiar separation of these birds sparked contemplation on
a broader scale – the issue of race in America. My mind meandered into the
realm of politics and race relations, questioning whether the divisions we
perceive are truly based on race or if they stem from differing interests.
Could it be that our natural inclination is to gravitate toward those whose
beliefs, opinions, and thoughts align with our own?
The prevalent narrative perpetuated by political leaders and
so-called "race hustlers" suggests a society divided along racial
lines. However, I propose an alternative perspective – perhaps our divisions
are not intrinsic to our racial identities but are rooted in differing
interests. Instead of allowing ourselves to be driven apart, let us recognize
our commonality as sons and daughters of a Heavenly Father.
As inhabitants of this earth, we share the common purpose of
love and service to one another. The notion that hate has a place in this world
is dismissed, for at the core of our existence is a shared humanity that
transcends color. Observing the genuine and carefree interaction between
children of different races reinforces the idea that unity is our default
state.
The question arises: when did these divisions based on skin
color seep into the minds of individuals, especially the young? It is a query
that leads us to reflect on the influences that shape our perceptions. The
message here is clear – resist the divisive narratives propagated by political
agendas and focus on the universal teachings of love and unity.
In the grand tapestry of existence, love stands as the common
thread that binds us all. It is a message echoed in the voice of God,
encouraging us to look beyond superficial differences and embrace the essence
of our shared humanity. Love, both for oneself and for others, is the key to
breaking down the barriers that threaten to separate us.
In conclusion, let us heed the call to love one another as we
love ourselves. By extending compassion, understanding, and service to those
around us, we open the door to a love that transcends color, race, and divisive
narratives. May the spirit of love guide our interactions, fostering a world
where unity prevails over division. God bless us all on this journey of love
and understanding.
