You Are What You Think About: The Power of Your Mindset
Early this morning, in the
pitch-black stillness of my room, inspiration struck, and I penned these words
to share a simple yet profound truth:
You are what you think you are.
Suppose you think you are shy, stupid, a bad test taker, nervous. In that case, a worrier, not as good at something, a loser,
forgetful, never on time, intelligent, pretty, a caregiver, positive,
optimistic, lonely, unloved, unwanted, alone, forgotten, not included,
insecure, of low self-esteem, won’t win, will win, can’t do it, can do it,
won’t do it, will do it, up, down, happy, sad, mad, angry, hostile, loving,
warm, good-looking, afraid, adventurous, good at something, or bad at
something...
The list is infinite.
The bottom line is simple: you are
what you think you are.
Changing
Your Thoughts Changes Your Life
You become what you think about. If you dislike something about yourself, begin by thinking differently.
- Think Thin: Stop reinforcing that thought if you believe you are overweight. Tell
yourself, "I am thin." Think it, live it, eat it, breathe it.
- Stop Negative Narratives: If you feel alone, stop telling yourself you're
lonely. Get out and do something. Keep busy, and take your mind off the
negativity.
Life is all about attitude. Your attitude is what you choose at any given moment.
If you feel unhappy, stop dwelling
on unhappiness. Start telling yourself you are happy.
Gratitude is key.
Take a piece of paper and write down
your blessings. Speak them aloud with joy. Thank the Lord for these gifts, and
you will feel the transformation.
Reprogram
Your Mindset
If you believe you’re not good at
taking tests, chances are you've told yourself this repeatedly. You’ve affirmed
it through experience. But that doesn’t make it true.
What’s true is that we believe what
we tell ourselves.
The cycle is clear:
- Our thoughts dictate our beliefs.
- Our beliefs shape our actions.
To change the action, change the
belief. To change the belief, change your thoughts. And to change your
thoughts, and rethink what you believe about yourself.
It’s
About Your Choice
What others say about you doesn’t
matter. What matters is whether you accept it as truth.
If someone calls you dumb, you have
two options:
1.
Believe them, and reinforce it with
actions.
2.
Ignore them, and replace that
narrative with something positive.
The choice is yours.
Act
as If You Are Already Who You Want to Be
Want to be a championship golfer?
Tell yourself, “I am a championship golfer.” Your actions will align with your
beliefs. You’ll do the work required because you want to stay true to your
thoughts.
It all starts in your mind.
Take a sheet of paper. Write down
what you think about yourself. On another sheet, write who you want to be.
Then, replace your old thoughts with the new ones.
For example, if you think you’re shy
but desire to be outgoing, start affirming: “I am outgoing.” Say it repeatedly
whenever self-doubt arises. Over time, your actions will align with this new
belief.
Transformation
Takes Time
Changing your mindset won’t happen
overnight. Old habits take time to undo, and new habits take time to form.
Remember these truths:
- “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, and try
again.”
- “Never give up, never give in.”
- “With every failure, you are one step closer to
success.”
Don’t be discouraged if change feels
slow. Concentrate on one or two areas at a time. Prioritize, make a list, and
repeat your new affirmations daily.
Count
Your Blessings and Trust the Lord
Life is too short for negative
self-talk. Why continue to put yourself down? Today is the day to start
thinking differently about yourself.
As the saying goes:
“If you don’t succeed at first, keep
trying.”
Thank you, Lord, for this moment of
inspiration. Thank you for the blessings you have so generously given me. I vow
to be a good steward of all that You have entrusted to me.
Amen.
Believe this: You are what you think
about. Live it. Embrace it. Change your
thoughts, and you’ll change your life.
