I Can. I Will. The Blueprint for Achieving Any Goal in Life

I Can. I Will. The Blueprint for Achieving Any Goal in Life

By Bill Conley – America’s Favorite Children’s Storyteller

Introduction
Three small words. That’s all it takes to change your mindset, sharpen your focus, and push you toward your biggest dreams.

“I Can. I Will.”

It’s simple, but don’t let the simplicity fool you—this is a powerhouse formula for success. Whether you’re chasing a state championship, aiming for a promotion, starting a business, learning a new skill, or tackling a personal challenge, the I Can. I Will. method gives you something incredibly powerful: a visual and mental anchor for your belief.

The idea works like this:

1.     At the top, write “I Can”.

2.     In the center, write your exact goal.

3.     At the bottom, write “I Will.”

For example:
I Can
Win the State Basketball Championship
I Will

Now imagine seeing that posted on your bedroom wall, your bathroom mirror, your locker door, your computer background—every single day. You can’t escape it. You don’t want to. Because the more you see it, the more your brain starts to believe it. And once your brain believes it, you start taking action to make it happen.

Why This Works

1. It Puts Your Goal Front and Center

Most people set goals and then… forget about them. They write them in a notebook that sits on a shelf, or they say them out loud once and hope the universe takes care of the rest. That’s not how achievement works. You need to see your goal constantly so it stays alive in your mind. The I Can. I Will. format forces you to put your goal where you’ll see it daily.

2. It Builds Self-Belief

The first part—I Can—is all about possibility. It’s telling yourself that you’re capable. Even if the road is long and the competition is fierce, you are not disqualified. You have the ability. You can.

3. It Commits You to Action

The last part—I Will—is your promise to yourself. You’re not just daydreaming. You’re committing to the hard work, the discipline, and the consistency it takes to make it happen. I Will says, “I’m not just capable; I’m committed.”

4. It Works for Every Area of Life

Sports are a natural fit for I Can. I Will. But this works just as well for school, career, health, relationships, and personal growth. Here are some examples:

  • I Can
Make the Dean’s List this semester
    I Will
  • I Can
Run a marathon in under 4 hours
    I Will
  • I Can
Grow my business to $100,000 this year
    I Will
  • I Can
Write and publish my first book
    I Will

How to Use the I Can. I Will. Method

1.     Choose Your Goals Clearly
Be specific. “Be better at basketball” is vague. “Improve my free throw percentage to 85%” is specific. The more specific, the easier it is to track progress.

2.     Write Them in the Format
Top: I Can
Middle: Your exact goal
Bottom: I Will

3.     Post Them Everywhere
Bathroom mirror, bedroom wall, inside your locker, on your desk, as your phone wallpaper—anywhere you will see them every day.

4.     Have More Than One
You’re not limited to one goal. You can have a dozen I Can. I Will. posters—one for each goal in sports, school, health, or career.

5.     Read Them Out Loud Daily
Say them with conviction. Don’t mumble. Don’t doubt. Speak them like you mean them, even on days when you don’t feel confident.

6.     Pair Them with Action Steps
Belief without action is just wishful thinking. For each goal, write down 3–5 specific steps you’ll take to make it happen. Then do them.

The Power of Seeing and Believing

Your brain works like a magnet. What you focus on, you tend to attract. If you constantly see and read I Can. I Will., you are programming your mind to search for opportunities, make better choices, and put in the effort required to succeed.

This isn’t magic—it’s mindset. And mindset changes everything.

Michael Jordan didn’t just hope he’d become one of the greatest basketball players in history—he saw it, believed it, and worked relentlessly toward it. Oprah Winfrey didn’t just wish for success—she declared it, believed it, and worked for it every day.

Final Thought

If you want to achieve something—anything—don’t just keep it in your head. Put it in front of your eyes. Say it out loud. Believe it. And act on it.

Write it. Post it. See it. Believe it. Do it.

I Can. I Will.

That’s not just a phrase. It’s a personal contract with your future. And if you live by it, you’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish.
