Focus on What Is: Overcoming Panic and Regret
Life is full of moments where we
find ourselves overwhelmed with worry, regret, and self-doubt. Whether it's a
panic attack gripping us in fear or a relentless cycle of beating ourselves up
over past mistakes, the weight of “what could have been” can feel paralyzing.
But here’s the truth: you can’t change the past, and you can’t predict the
future with certainty. What you can do is focus on what is—the
present moment—and use it as a starting point to move forward.
When panic sets in, the mind races
through worst-case scenarios. It replays past failures and creates a tangled
web of anxiety about what’s to come. But in reality, those fears and regrets
hold no real power over us unless we allow them to. The key to breaking free is
shifting our focus.
Instead of spiraling into “what if”
or “what should have been,” anchor yourself in what is. Take a deep
breath. Look around. Acknowledge where you are right now, in this very moment.
The past is done. The future isn’t written. But the present is in your hands,
and that’s where your power lies.
Mistakes happen. We all make choices
we wish we could redo. But dwelling on them won’t change anything. What will
make a difference is recognizing where you are today and choosing a new
direction. Regret and self-criticism will only weigh you down, but acceptance
and forward-thinking will lift you up.
So when you feel panic creeping in,
or when regret tries to take over, remember: Don’t get lost in what could
have been. Focus on what is. The moment you do, you’ll find the clarity and
strength to take the next step forward.
