Gabby the Goose Learns to Lift Others Up
In the peaceful meadow by the glistening
lake, all the animals lived in harmony. Birds chirped cheerful songs, deer
pranced through the fields, and the beavers busily built their dams. But among
them was Gabby the Goose, who had a habit of talking—a lot. Gabby loved to chat
with her friends, but sometimes, she would spread stories that weren’t entirely
true.
One sunny morning, Gabby waddled over to a
group of ducks at the water’s edge. "Did you hear? Benny the Beaver took
all the best sticks for his dam and didn’t leave any for the others!" she
said, shaking her feathers dramatically.
The ducks gasped. "Really? That doesn’t
sound like Benny!" said Daisy Duck.
"Oh, but I heard it from a very reliable
source," Gabby insisted, fluffing her wings.
Before long, the news spread across the
meadow. The beavers whispered about it, the rabbits twitched their noses in
suspicion, and even the wise old owl raised an eyebrow. Benny, who had been
working hard all day, soon noticed that the other animals were giving him
strange looks.
When he asked his friend Oliver the Otter
what was going on, Oliver hesitated. "Well… everyone’s saying you took all
the best sticks and didn’t share."
Benny’s eyes widened. "That’s not true!
I always leave enough for everyone! Who would say such a thing?"
Oliver frowned. "I think Gabby might
have started the rumor."
Benny felt a knot in his chest. He had worked
hard to be fair and kind, but now, everyone doubted him. He knew he had to talk
to Gabby.
That afternoon, Benny found Gabby by the
lake, chatting away with some geese. "Gabby, can we talk?" he asked.
Gabby turned, surprised. "Oh, Benny! Of
course, what’s up?"
"I heard that you told everyone I took
all the best sticks. That’s not true, and now some animals are upset with me.
Why did you say that?"
Gabby shuffled her webbed feet. "Oh…
well, I heard it from someone else, and I thought it was interesting, so I just
shared it. I didn’t mean to cause trouble."
Benny sighed. "Gabby, words are
powerful. When you spread stories without knowing if they’re true, you can hurt
people. Now my friends don’t trust me, and I have to work hard to fix
that."
Gabby’s heart sank. She hadn’t realized how
much harm her words had caused. "I’m so sorry, Benny. I wasn’t thinking. I
just like to talk, and sometimes I don’t realize the damage I might be
doing."
Benny gave her a small smile. "It’s
okay, Gabby, but please, be more careful. Instead of spreading gossip, maybe
you could spread kindness."
Gabby nodded. "You’re right. I want to
make things better."
That evening, Gabby waddled across the
meadow, stopping to speak to every animal she had told the rumor to. "I
was wrong about Benny. He didn’t take all the best sticks. He’s always fair and
shares with everyone. I shouldn’t have spoken without knowing the truth."
Slowly, the meadow returned to normal, and
Benny’s reputation was restored. The animals forgave Gabby, and she learned an
important lesson. From that day on, she made an effort to only say things that
were true and uplifting. Instead of gossiping, she found joy in complimenting
others, telling jokes that made her friends laugh, and sharing positive
stories.
One day, Oliver the Otter smiled and said,
"Gabby, I love hearing you talk now. Your words make the meadow a brighter
place!"
Gabby beamed with pride. She had learned that
words could lift up or tear down—and she chose to be a builder.
Moral of the Story: Words can lift up or tear down—choose to be a
builder. What we say has power, and spreading kindness creates a happier, more
trusting world. Always think before you speak, and make sure your words bring
light, not darkness.
