Leo the Llama and the Power of Integrity
In the peaceful valley of Golden Hills, where
the grass swayed gently in the breeze and the rivers sparkled under the sun,
lived a young llama named Leo. Leo was known for his bright spirit and playful
nature, but what made him truly special was his deep sense of honesty. His
parents had always told him, "Integrity means doing the right thing, even
when no one is watching."
One day, as Leo was playing by the riverbank,
his best friend, Max the Monkey, ran up to him excitedly. "Leo! I found a
whole basket of fresh apples near Farmer Joe’s fence! No one was around, so I
took a few. Come on, let’s share them!"
Leo’s ears perked up. "Max, did you ask
if you could take them?"
Max shook his head. "No, but they were
just sitting there! No one will ever know."
Leo hesitated. He loved apples, and they
smelled delicious, but something didn’t feel right. "But Max, those apples
don’t belong to us. If we take them without permission, it’s stealing."
Max laughed. "Oh, Leo, don’t be such a
worrywart. It’s not like Farmer Joe will miss a few apples."
Leo knew he had a choice. He could take the
apples and enjoy them, or he could do what he knew was right. With a deep breath,
he shook his head. "Max, I can’t take something that isn’t mine. That
wouldn’t be honest."
Max groaned. "Fine, suit yourself. More
apples for me!"
Later that afternoon, Leo walked to Farmer
Joe’s barn. "Farmer Joe, Max and I found a basket of apples near your
fence. I just wanted to make sure they weren’t lost."
Farmer Joe smiled. "Thank you, Leo!
Those apples were meant for the market tomorrow. I’m glad you didn’t take them
without asking."
Leo felt proud of himself. He had done the
right thing, even when it was difficult. That night, his parents praised him.
"Integrity means standing by what is right, no matter what," his
mother said. "And today, you showed true integrity."
A few days later, Leo was playing near the
schoolyard when he saw Max talking to Olivia the Owl. Max was waving a shiny
silver whistle. "Look what I found! Someone must have dropped it."
Olivia tilted her head. "That’s Mr.
Badger’s whistle. He uses it for our school games."
Max grinned. "Well, finders keepers,
right?"
Leo stepped forward. "Max, you should
give it back. It’s not yours."
Max frowned. "Leo, you’re always making
things difficult. Nobody will even know I have it!"
Leo thought hard. He could stay quiet and let
Max keep the whistle, or he could speak up. Taking a deep breath, he said,
"Max, I don’t want to be a part of something that isn’t right. If you
don’t return it, I will."
Max sighed heavily and rolled his eyes.
"Fine! Here, take it."
Leo returned the whistle to Mr. Badger, who
smiled. "Thank you, Leo. That whistle is important to me. You have a
strong sense of integrity."
But things weren’t the same with Max. Over
the next few days, he stopped inviting Leo to play. At first, Leo felt sad, but
he knew that doing what was right mattered more than going along with something
wrong.
One morning, Max ran up to Leo, looking
worried. "Leo! I need your help. I accidentally broke a window at the
school, and I told Principal Pelican that Oliver the Otter did it. But now
Oliver is in trouble, and I feel terrible. What should I do?"
Leo looked at Max seriously. "You have
to tell the truth. That’s what integrity is—fixing our mistakes, even when it’s
hard."
Max nodded slowly. "You’re right. I
should have listened to you before."
Together, they went to Principal Pelican and
explained what had really happened. Principal Pelican thanked Max for telling
the truth, but he also reminded him that integrity meant always choosing
honesty, not just when we feel guilty.
From that day on, Max understood what
integrity meant. And Leo? He continued to be the llama who always did the right
thing, showing everyone in Golden Hills that true integrity is standing by what
is right, even when no one is watching.
Moral: Integrity is choosing to do
the right thing, even when it’s difficult. Keeping your integrity means being
honest in all situations, not just when others are watching. Losing integrity
happens little by little, but keeping it makes you a person others can trust
and respect.
