Lucy the Lamb and the Gift of Love
In a peaceful meadow where the grass swayed
gently in the breeze, lived a kind and gentle lamb named Lucy. Lucy was known
for her soft wool and warm heart. She always helped her friends, whether it was
sharing a shady spot under the big oak tree or leading the younger lambs back
to their mothers when they wandered too far.
One crisp spring morning, as Lucy trotted
through the meadow, she noticed something small and still on the ground. It was
a tiny bird with bright blue feathers, lying in the grass with one wing bent at
an odd angle.
“Oh no!” Lucy gasped. “Are you okay?”
The bird blinked up at her, his voice weak.
“I fell from my nest and hurt my wing. Now I can’t fly.”
Lucy’s heart ached for the little bird. She
knew he wouldn’t survive on his own. “Don’t worry,” she said softly. “I’ll take
care of you.”
Carefully, Lucy picked up the bird and
carried him to a cozy spot beneath the oak tree. She gathered soft grass and
made a warm little nest for him. She brought him seeds and fresh water every
day, making sure he had everything he needed.
Days passed, and the bird’s wing slowly
healed. Lucy watched over him, telling him stories about the meadow and the
stars above. Even though the bird couldn’t give her anything in return, Lucy
didn’t mind. She loved helping others simply because it made her happy.
One bright morning, as Lucy brought the bird
his breakfast, he stretched his wings and flapped them excitedly. “Lucy! My
wing is better! I can fly again!”
Lucy beamed. “That’s wonderful!”
The little bird hopped onto a low branch and
looked at Lucy with gratitude. “You were so kind to me, even though I couldn’t
give you anything back. I want to thank you in the best way I can.”
Then, the bird lifted his head and began to
sing. His voice was the sweetest sound Lucy had ever heard, like the gentle hum
of the wind mixed with the laughter of the stream. His song floated across the
meadow, filling the air with beauty and warmth.
Lucy closed her eyes and smiled. She had
expected nothing, but she had received a gift greater than she could have
imagined—a song made just for her.
The little bird took flight, soaring high
above the meadow. But every morning, he would return to sing for Lucy, filling
her heart with joy. And from that day on, Lucy understood something truly
special: love shines brightest when given freely, without expecting anything in
return.
Moral of the Story: Love shines brightest when given freely. When we care
for others without expecting anything in return, we receive the greatest gifts
of all—happiness, friendship, and love.
