Ruby the Rabbit Learns Kindness
In a peaceful meadow filled with tall grass
and colorful wildflowers, there lived a young rabbit named Ruby. She was fast,
smart, and always full of energy. She loved to race through the meadow, nibble
on sweet clover, and play with her friends. But Ruby had one little problem—she
wasn’t always kind to the other rabbits, especially the smaller ones.
One morning, as the sun warmed the meadow, a
tiny rabbit named Benny hopped over to Ruby. "Ruby, can I play with you
and your friends today?" he asked eagerly.
Ruby wrinkled her nose. "You’re too
small, Benny. You’ll just slow us down," she said. Then she hopped away
with her friends, leaving Benny standing alone.
Benny’s ears drooped, and he slowly hopped
away. Ruby didn’t notice—she was too busy having fun.
Later that day, Ruby and her friends decided
to race to the big oak tree at the edge of the meadow. Just as they lined up to
start, an older rabbit named Greta came over. Greta was one of the wisest
rabbits in the meadow, and everyone respected her.
"Ruby, would you help me gather food for
the younger rabbits?" Greta asked kindly.
Ruby sighed. "I don’t want to do that
right now. I’m about to race with my friends. You can do it by yourself,
right?" she said.
Greta’s eyes softened, but she simply nodded
and walked away.
Ruby didn’t think twice about it—until the
next day. A big storm rolled in, and the meadow became muddy and wet. The young
rabbits, including Benny, were cold and hungry. Ruby went looking for food, but
to her surprise, Greta had already gathered plenty for the little ones.
As Ruby watched Greta carefully share the
food, she suddenly felt bad. Greta had asked for help, but Ruby had refused.
Benny had wanted to play, but Ruby had ignored him. Now, she realized how
unkind she had been.
Feeling guilty, Ruby hopped over to Benny.
"Benny, I was wrong to leave you out. Would you like to play with us
today?" she asked.
Benny’s eyes lit up. "Really? I’d love
to!"
Then Ruby went to Greta. "Greta, I
should have helped you yesterday. Can I help you gather food today?"
Greta smiled warmly. "Of course, Ruby.
That means a lot."
From that day on, Ruby treated others how she
wanted to be treated. She invited Benny to play, helped Greta when needed, and
made sure no rabbit in the meadow felt left out. And do you know what happened?
The other rabbits started treating Ruby with even more kindness in return.
As the days passed, Ruby made sure to include
Benny in games, even letting him lead a race one afternoon. She realized that
Benny wasn’t slow at all—he was actually quite clever, finding the fastest
paths through the meadow. Ruby’s friends also started seeing Benny in a new way
and welcomed him into their games. Benny, once the little rabbit who was left
behind, became one of their best playmates.
One evening, as the sun set and the rabbits
gathered in a cozy circle, Greta spoke up. "Ruby, I have seen a great
change in you. You have learned one of the most important lessons in
life—kindness."
Ruby’s ears twitched proudly. "I finally
understand, Greta. Treating others kindly makes everyone happier—including
me."
Greta nodded. "Kindness spreads, Ruby.
When you treat others with respect and care, it comes back to you in the most
wonderful ways."
Benny grinned. "I’m glad we’re friends
now, Ruby. You make the best races even better!"
Ruby beamed. She had learned that kindness
wasn’t just about being nice—it was about making others feel valued and
included. And from that moment on, she made sure to treat others the way she
wanted to be treated.
Moral of the Story: Treat others how you want to be treated. Kindness
comes back to you when you show it to others, and friendships grow stronger
when built on respect and care.
