A Christmas Family Reading
The Gift of Love
Before we open gifts.
Before we rush into the day.
Before we focus on what we will receive.
Let us remember what was given.
Long ago, on a quiet night, God looked upon
the world and saw its need. He saw broken hearts. He saw fear and loneliness.
He saw people searching for hope. And because God loved the world, He gave.
The Bible tells us, “For God so loved the
world that He gave His one and only Son.” Christmas begins with love, and love
begins with giving.
Jesus was born not in a palace, but in a
manger. Heaven’s greatest gift arrived humbly, wrapped not in silk but in
swaddling cloth. God did not give from abundance. He gave from His heart.
Every good and perfect gift comes from God.
The gift of Jesus reminds us that God is near, that we are not forgotten, and
that love always moves toward others.
Jesus later taught us something that changes
the way we live. He said it is more blessed to give than to receive. The world
tells us happiness comes from getting more. Jesus tells us joy comes from
giving more.
At Christmas, we remember that love is not
just spoken. Love is lived. Love is shown. Love is given.
When we share with one another, we reflect
God’s heart.
When we show kindness, we honor Christ.
When we serve quietly, we walk in His footsteps.
The Bible reminds us not to love only with
words, but with actions and truth. Christmas invites us to love in ways that
can be seen and felt.
Tonight or this morning, as a family, we
pause to give thanks. We thank God for His Son. We thank God for each other. We
thank God for the opportunity to love as we have been loved.
May our home be filled with peace.
May our hearts be filled with gratitude.
May our lives be filled with generosity.
And may we always remember that the greatest
gift we will ever receive is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Family Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for loving us so much that you gave us Jesus.
Thank you to our family and the love we share.
Help us to be kind, generous, and thoughtful.
Teach us to give freely, love deeply, and serve joyfully.
May our home reflect your love today and always.
We celebrate Jesus this Christmas and every day.
Amen.
