When did you give up caring about how you look, feel and your life?

When did you give up caring?

When did you stop caring about how you look
When did you stop caring about how you felt?
When did you stop caring about your life?

When did you lose hope?
When did you stop loving yourself?
Why do you have so little faith in yourself?
What happens to your self-esteem?
When did you stop believing in yourself?

What is your story?

Who told you, you couldn't?
Couldn't what?

What is your story?

Why did you give yourself permission to stop caring about how you looked, felt or about your life?
When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you like the person you see?

Do you drink too much, smoke too much, use illegal drugs, abuse prescription drugs?  Do you work too much? Have you strayed from your relationship, have you been faithful

Have you stopped exercising? Told yourself, you just don't matter anymore or what's the use?
What's the use of exercising, quitting smoking, using alcohol or drugs to medicate your pain?

Are you in a relationship that is dead and unfulfilled?

Why have you quit?  Quit believing in yourself? Quit dreaming? Quit setting goals? Quit on life?

What's your story?

I was recently on a cruise and noticed that there were quite a few people who ate too much, drank too much and gambled too much.  I saw a lot of unhappy faces.  People seemed to be moving about, but not living the life they once dreamed of.
I asked myself, why did they quit?  Why did you quit?  When did they stop caring how they looked? When did they give themselves permission to gain an extra 25, 50, 100, 150 pounds, to smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day, to drink 10, 15 or 20 drinks in a day or to gamble at the casino with what little money they had left?
What possessed them to keep going?  To keep not caring?  To inflict upon themselves behaviors that they know in their heart is not healthy?

Why?  When? And for what reason?

Who told you that it was OK to keep drinking to excess or to take drugs or to smoke or to overeat?  Did you tell yourself or did someone tell you it was OK?  Who told you that you were not good enough?  That you didn't measure up? That it was OK to abuse and pollute your body and your mind with harmful products?

It doesn't have to be that way!!!

Isn't it about time you started caring again?  About how you look?  Feel? Act?

Isn't it about time you quit drinking too much, gambling too much, eating too much, and using drugs?  We could put a whole host of other behaviors such as shopping too much, soliciting sexual gratification that are unhealthy and any other narcissistic behavior that harms your relationships with others.

Why?

Why did you stop caring?
When did you stop caring about you?

It is not too late.  It is never too late to change.  It is never too late to start dreaming again. The world is your oyster.

Have faith in yourself, trust and believe in yourself, know that you are valuable, that you have worth and begin again to love yourself again, just the way you are today and then dream of who you would like to become.

I would love to hear your story.

I would love to hear why you stopped caring about yourself.
I would love to hear what you are going to do to change.

If you need help, I would love to help you.  I can help you.  I can help you dream again.  I can help you change to become the person you once believed in.

Please feel free to contact me at billhytek@hotmail.com.

Isn't it time?
Let's begin this journey together, I will help you.

A letter to my former spouse pleading with her to honor the divorce decree to do her part

Mary

If you are not going to let the girls see me and you continue to refuse to follow the parenting plan and continue to refuse to drive the girls to see me.  I will probably move from Utah.

Why should I stay in Utah and try to deal with you any longer.  You thwart every attempt I try to make to see my children. Just like you did with Bob, Kala's Dad.  Don't think I don't know.  I know you refused to let him see Kala even though he wanted to, you wouldn't let him and you are doing the same thing to me.

I am so tired of fighting you on this issue.  You have completely brainwashed the children to not have any time to see their Father.

The proof is in the pudding.  Your complete refusal to not drive the girls to see me is all the proof I need that you don't want the girls to spend time with their Father.

The girls never have any time for me.

You plan events and activities all the time when it is supposed to be my time with the girls.

You moved away so that I couldn't see my girls midweek knowing how difficult it would be for me to drive up to Midway each week.  There was absolutely no need for you to move to Midway.

Neither you or your new husband have a job in Midway.

You have never lived in Midway and I begged and pleaded with you to not move so far away.

I begged you to move closer, you knew by moving to Midway that it would hurt my relationship with my children. I told you so and you purposely have tried to destroy my relationship with my children.

I tried to go through the courts to force you into you having to live up to the divorce agreement.  In turn, you brought issue after issue, hundreds and hundreds of pages of documents mudding the water and in the end, nothing I brought before the court was even heard.

You have contacted the State Department after State Department after me.

You have brought a lawsuit against me for more child support.

You lie and say you tell the children you support them seeing me, yet you don't lift one finger to help that come about.

You have refused to co-parent our children and everything you have done demonstrates your total lack of concern for a relationship between a child and their Father.

I am their Dad, I have been way too passive allowing the children to see on their terms because your complete refusal to make sure they see their Dad every other weekend.

It is not solely my responsibility, I am not responsible for driving 100% of the time.  It takes two parents.

You are destroying my relationship with my children and I know that is, has been and will continue to be your intention.

You want to continue to punish me, bully me, threaten me, intimidate me, silence me any way you can.

You are vindictive and mean.

If I can’t see my girls, if they won’t spend time with me, if they are way too busy to see their Father, then what am I doing in Utah.

I want to see my girls Mary and I want you to make it happen.  I want you to drive the girls to see me Mary, per the divorce agreement.

I miss my girls, I want to be with my girls.  I want your help.

All I ever wanted to be was a full time Dad. Divorce changed all that.

All I ever wanted to be was a full time Dad
                                    Divorce changed all that.

All I ever wanted to be was a full time Dad, divorce changed all that.  Growing up I had an idyllic childhood; wonderful loving parents, 7 siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents, life could not have been better.

As I grew into adulthood I knew I wanted a family, I wanted to have children, a stay at home wife, a house in the suburbs and a stable job.  Most importantly I wanted to be a full time Dad.  I wanted to wake up to my children, I wanted to put my children to bed, I wanted to play with my children and see my children grow.  I wanted to devote myself to my wife and my children. All that changed when I got divorced, my former spouse move a considerable distance away and my two daughters grew into teenagers.
No longer did I see my children in the morning or the evening; no longer was I able to spend time on a daily basis catching up with their lives. No longer did I see their smiling faces.

It seems like all I have been left with these days are phone calls and text and the occasional visit.

All I ever wanted to be was a full time Dad.

There are days I painfully grieve the loss of the relationship with my children, where tears stream down my face uncontrollably, where the sense of loss is so great that I find myself lying in bed wondering how can I improve the situation I have found myself in.

I tell my children all the time how important they are to me, that I want to spend time with them, that I am willing to do anything to spend time with them, this all falls on deaf ears, they are way too busy to spend time with their Father.

They have no idea how I hurt inside, no idea the pain I feel in my heart, no idea how badly I would love to spend time with them.

I wish they could understand. I wish they appreciated me. I wish they didn’t live so far away and I wish they knew how deeply I loved them and would do anything just to spend a few minutes with them.

Divorce sucks.

Words are easily spoken but not soon forgiven

Choose your words wisely

The following is an excerpt from my book titled

"As I was walking God was talking and this is what he said".

This is the sixth post in a 6 part series covering the following topics....

Fatherhood (posted on December 15)

Teaching our Children (December 16)

Motherhood (December 16)

Absentee Fathers/Godless Fathers (December 17)

Being equally yoked in marriage and the Love of the Lord (December 18)

Doubt (December 19)

Our choice of words one to another. (Todays post)

Several years ago I spent a great deal of time walking and as I walked I carried a notebook and a pen. I received what I know to be Devine inspiration from God. What you are about to read is what God would like us all to hear. I believe God gave me these words to write down so that I might share them with the world. God our Father in Heaven wants us all to know he Loves us and he also wants us all to know that Love is much more than never having to say you are sorry.

Please take time to reflect on the words given to me by God our Father in Heaven. God has instructed me to tell you that he would like to ask each of you to take the time to read these multiple times until they really soak into your conscience. He knows that by doing this, you will change your life forever. You will also change the lives of everyone around you.

Enjoy what God our Father in Heaven has provided me as a gift to you and to all those you know.

God Bless one and all.

Matthew on our choice of words

Matthew 15:11, 18-20) Make a tree good and its fruits will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruits will be bad. For a tree is recognized by its fruits (we are the tree). You brood of vipers, how can you that are evil say anything that is good. For out of the overflow of the heart the mouths speak. The good man brings good things out of the good that is stored up in him and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you man will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted and by your words you will be condemned.

So critically important, the words we choose to say one to another!

We have to watch what we say very carefully, we need to be slow to anger, have patience and not say things that we will later regret. Our mouth and our tongue are used by Satan to cause pain, misery and suffering to others and to our self. Think before you speak! Ask yourself this question.

Is what I am about to say good and thus from the Lord or evil and thus from Satan.

Choose your words carefully, they can destroy a relationship in no time.

If you have an issue with someone it is much better to bring your issue before the Lord in prayer than to lash out at one another later regretting that which was said.

Words are easily spoken but not soon forgiven

You must be very, very careful when speaking to others, choose your words wisely and you will not become a fool.

Before you speak

Slow down - remain calm.
Don't raise your voice -Talk in your normal voice
Listen, Listen, Listen

There once was a wise old owl, the more he saw, the less he spoke. The less he spoke, the more he heard, why can't we be like that old bird.

Never say anything that you will later regret.
Don't intentionally hurt someone else with your words, please don't do this.
If it is to difficult for you to curb your tongue, leave.

Fear,. Uncertainty and Doubt - The opposite of Faith

Doubt (todays post)

Our choice of words one to another.

You will love today’s post.

Several years ago I spent a great deal of time walking and as I walked I carried a notebook and a pen. I received what I know to be Devine inspiration from God. What you are about to read is what God would like us all to hear. I believe God gave me these words to write down so that I might share them with the world. Enjoy what God our Father in Heaven has provided me as a gift to you and to all those you know.

God Bless one and all.

Whenever you are confused about anything, get on your knees and pray to the Lord to receive understanding.

As mortal men we will never figure out the designs of our adversary.

Since the death of Christ, no one on this earth has walked in perfection.

We are all subject to sin.

The evil one uses us all from time to time to deceive others and weaken their relationship with the Lord.

He is very cunning and uses trickery and craftiness to deceive even the most righteous.

His pursuit of evil within each of us is never ending.

If Satan leads you to question or doubt yourself or others he has gained a foothold.

Don’t be deceived by Satan, his designs are pure evil. He uses each of us to deceive one another. He puts thoughts of insecurity into our heads. He is the one who created the concept of low self -esteem, self -worth and respect.

Matthew 14:31You of little faith, Jesus said, why do you doubt. Matthew 21:21, 22Jesus said I tell you the truth if you have faith and do not doubt. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask in prayer. Mark 11:23, 24Have faith in God Jesus said. I tell you the truth if anyone says to this mountain, go throw yourself into the sea and does not doubt in his heart but believes what he says will happen it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours. James 1:6 – He must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave on the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. Jude: 22 – Be merciful to those who doubt.

Doubt – to be uncertain or sure about. To tend to distrust or disbelieve. A lack of certainty or conviction. An uncertain state of affairs. Synonyms – doubtfulness, dubiety, question, skepticism, uncertainty.

Doubtfulness – not sure, uncertain. Of uncertain outcome, undecided. Equivocal in nature or character, questionable.

Question – an expression of inquiry requiring or inviting an answer, an unresolved matter or problem. Uncertainty, doubt.

Skepticism – a doubting or questioning attitude. The philosophical doctrine that the attainment of absolute knowledge is impossible.

Skeptic – one who habitually doubts or questions.

Uncertainty – not sure, doubtful. Not yet determined or settled. Likely to change, variable. Not capable of knowing in advance.

Some people are prone to doubt or disbelief, take Doubting Thomas for example. Even though he was told by countless others who he trusted that Jesus had been resurrected from the dead, he would not believe them until he had put his hands through the nail holes left in his wrist and feet.

John 20:25Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were and put my hand on my side, I will not believe it. Jesus said in verse 27Put your finger here, see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe. Verse 29 – Because you have seen me you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.

Doubt is a lack of faith or belief.

The Lord calls us to stop doubting and believe.

When others doubt, question, are skeptical, are uncertain, what they are displaying is a lack of faith.

Satan is the prince of darkness and one of his evil under links is a notion called doubt, uncertainty and fear.

Doubt is the opposite of faith.

Trust and believe in the Lord, he will not let you down.

Matthew 8:25, 26Jesus calms the storm. Lord saves us! We are going to drown. He replied you of little faith, why are you so afraid. Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves and it was completely calm.

When it seems like your world is crashing in on you, have faith and believe in the name of Jesus, he is capable of helping you weather any storm life has to offer you.

Jesus walked on water. Matthew 14:30-32 – But when he (Peter) saw the wind, he was afraid and began to sink, cried out, oh Lord save me. Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. You of little faith, he said, why did you doubt? And then he climbed into the boat, the wind died down.

If Thomas an apostle, all of the apostles and Peter an apostle all had doubts and questions regarding their faith and saw Jesus, how difficult is it for us to believe and have faith never having seen Jesus.

Jesus said blessed are they that have never seen, who trust and believe in the Lord, who love and serve the knowledge with all their heart, faithfully with expectation, who obey and never doubt.

It is not easy to have absolute, total and complete faith, belief and trust in the Lord; however it is possible to get close through prayer and obedience to his word.

When in doubt, pray out loud!

When in fear, don’t despair, Jesus is near!

When uncertain, lift the curtain that hides your eyes, which make you wise.

And when all else fails, pray and have faith and believe that Jesus will answer your prayers. Thank you Lord for this time together, thank you for the insight. Thanks you Jesus for your sacrifice on the cross, thanks to you Holy Spirit for your guidance and counsel, thank you all for your love. I love you all, Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ. I humble myself before you and submit myself to your will.

Tomorrows post reminds us of the importance of choosing our words carefully.

There is a big problem in America today – Absentee Fathers

.

It is the responsibility of the fathers to role models for our children the type of relationship our fathers have for us. Too many fathers father children out of wedlock and abandon their parenting responsibility. Other fathers divorce their wives or vice versa thus separating the fathers from the children causing anxiety, worry, confusion, abandonment issues. Any time you separate children, the children are going to be confused. When fathers are not around to instruct and train our children in the ways of the Lord the children suffer and grow up not knowing the Lord as they should.

Mother’s responsibility is to comfort the children.

Comfort – to console in time of fear or grief. A state of ease or wellbeing. Solace. Help, assistance. One that brings relief or wellbeing. Capacity to give physical ease.

The father’s responsibility is to educate, train, instruct, teach our children about the Lord.

When there is no father around our children are not being taught.

When the father is around but does not walk in the way of the Lord, again our children lose out.

A huge problem with our society is that our fathers are not teaching their children to love and serve the Lord.

We are failing them to read the word of the Lord, to walk in obedience, to pray etc.

Our Godless society is a result of our Godless fathers.

Fathers teach your children well, it is your responsibility.

What should we teach our children?

We teach them about love and service, obedience, discipline, setting priorities, patience, Jesus, baptism, prayer, forgiveness, faith, light, darkness, evil, Sabbath day, honest, integrity, repentance, authority, honor, respect, dignity – personal, self- worth – esteem and value, how to be humble and kindness, goodness, truth, honesty, hope, charity, perseverance, motivation, anger, the evils of self -gratification, envy, covetousness, pride and conceit, sincerity, joy, happiness, plan of salvation, outer darkness or Hell, Satan and his disciples, Jesus birth, death, resurrection, God’s will for us. These are just a few things we as Fathers can give guidance to our children, the list could go on and on.

Suffice it to say that we need to have knowledge, understanding and wisdom in these areas so that we can pattern our life first before we begin to train and instruct our children.

If anyone lacks wisdom, pray for it and the father will provide it. James 1:5 – If any of you lack wisdom, he should ask God who gives generously to all who gives without finding fault and it will be given to him. If you are concerned or worry that you don’t have the knowledge you need remember to 1. pray continuously 1 Thessalonians 5:17 2. ask for the help of the Holy Spirit to direct and guide you in your training and instruction. Romans 8:16 – In the same way the spirit helps us in our weakness. We may not know what we ought to pray for, but the spirit intercedes on our behalf with groans that words cannot express.

The Lord does not expect us to have all the answers, he does instruct us to live an obedient life and in doing so we will set a wonderful example for our children. It is important as a family to love and serve one another unconditionally without complaining or grumbling. Philippians 2:14Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation. 1 Corinthians 10:10 – And do not grumble, as some of them did and were killed by the destroying angel. 1 Peter 4:9, 10 – Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use the gifts he has received to serve others, do not be easily angered for Proverbs 29:22 – An angry man stirs up dissension and a hot tempered one commits many sins. We are called James 1:19 – Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.

As a child yours is not to question why but to listen and obey your parents.

We have to be very careful of what we say to one another, the Lord cautions us not to argue or to use our words in a manner which hurt someone else. James 1:26 – If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Children are not to talk back to their parents, argue, complain or grumble.

We are called to put the word of the Lord into action. James 1:22 – Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourself. Do what it says.

We are called to read the bible. 2 Timothy 3:15-17You have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through Jesus Christ. All scriptures are God breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. So that man may be equipped for every good work.

And lastly fathers 1 Timothy 3:4He must manage his own family well and see that the children obey him with proper respect.

Children are called to obedience to the word as well as adults. Deuteronomy 13:4 – It is the Lord your God you must follow and him you must revere. Keep his commandments and obey him, serve him and hold fast to him.

Fathers are called to train and instruct their children in the ways of the Lord, children are called to honor, respect and obey their parents without complaining, grumbling or arguing.

We are called to Deuteronomy 10:12, 13And now O Israel what does the Lord ask of you but to fear the Lord your God to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and to observe the Lords commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good.

In the Old Testament when a child did not obey his father and mother, would not listen to them when they disciplined him or her, they were brought before the elders of the church and were stoned to death. Deuteronomy 21:18-22

“If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they discipline him, will not listen to them, 19 then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, 20 and they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This our son is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ 21 Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall purge the evil from your midst, and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

So what about mothers?

What are her responsibilities to the child and the child to the mother?

Mothers

Isaiah 66:13As a mother comforts her child. Children Proverbs 1:8Listen my son to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teachings

There is really not much in the scriptures relating to the duties of the mother specifically.

However the Lord has called us to love and serve one another.

Other passages on a Christian household are:

Ephesians 4:31, 32Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another forgiving each other just as Christ forgave you.

It is not enough to tell our children to say they are sorry when the injury one another. It is equally important to request the injured party to pray for forgiveness for the other and tell them they are forgiven. Deuteronomy 6:6-9These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them in your children, talk about them when you sit at home, and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your house and on your gates. Mothers need to bring comfort to their children and children are to obey the teachings of their mothers.

This is the second post in a six part series, tomorrows post will cover the topic of......

Divorced Fathers grieve the loss of their child or children. From a divorced Father's perspective.

Divorced Fathers grieve the loss of their child or children.

From a divorced Father’s perspective.

Divorced Fathers can grieve the loss of the daily connection they had with their children if the children’s primary custody is awarded to the Mother in the divorce.  I don’t think Mothers who are awarded primary custody fully understand or appreciate that there are nurturing, loving Father’s who grieve the loss of their children. I am one of those Father’s.

I was as integral a part of the raising of the children, if not more involved in attending to the daily affairs of the children.

It was me who woke the children in the morning, who made them breakfast, made their sack lunches, drove them to school, picked them up from school, shuttled them around to their activities, coached their sports teams, helped them with their homework, put them to bed each night, read them stories or told them stories before they went to sleep.

My former spouse was a stay at home Mother and occasionally helped me with the children but it was I who was as equal a caretaker of the children.

The world that I knew while I was married abruptly changed when my former spouse and I divorced.  No longer was I care taking and attending to the needs of the children on a daily basis. My life prior to the divorce revolved around taking care of the children, taking care of the home, taking care of the needs of my former spouse, providing for my Family, running errands, devoted to my church  and the community.

You ask me how I had the time, I made time for what was most important to me and that was attending to the needs of my Family.

I had some early success in business and had children a little later in life which provided me with some flexibility when it came committing time to my family and my vocation.

I was and am grateful that I had those years with my children, that I could serve the needs of my children and my former spouse and that I was part of a family which for me was the greatest gift in the world.

I grieve the loss of being part of a family, of being involved in the day to day affairs of my children, of seeing their smiling faces in the morning and seeing them off to school.  I miss preparing a snack for them as I brought them home from school, of ferrying them off to their activities and spending time with them helping them with their homework.

I miss seeing my children and I miss being part of a family.

For this Father the importance of my presence in the home was paramount to my happiness in my marriage.  I know the importance of a Father in a home and I was willing to fight to keep my marriage healthy and happy so that I could remain in the home even to the point of losing a piece of who I was as a person.  I may have compromised way too much in my marriage but I did so because of my strong belief that I needed to be there for my children.

(I will publish as my next blog “Daddy I love you” which you may want to read where I discuss the role and responsibility of a Father.)

Mothers you know what type of Father your former spouse was to your children.  If he was a dedicated, devoted, loving Father to the children, know this, he is grieving the loss of the children and he may not know how to show or articulate it, but he misses his children.

There are plenty of men who grew up in intact families that wanted to start a family of their own and had no notion that one day they would be divorced.  The role model of a Mother and Father remaining married throughout their life has now shattered with the divorce and for many men they have a difficult or hard time understanding their role as a parent when it comes to seeing their children live with their Mother.

This is foreign territory for these men.  They did not experience this growing up and they may have difficulty adjusting to seeing their children on a part time basis which may manifest itself in ways that will confuse the Mother.  Know this, it is confusing for the Father as well.

Mother’s if you are the primary caretaker and now the courts have awarded you custody and the Father now has the right to see his children every other weekend, a total of around 6 days a month, know this, he is hurting inside, he may not show it, but I will guarantee you, the loss of seeing his children outweighs everything else “if” he takes his role as a Father as his number one priority in life, as I did.

My former spouse does not get this.  Since our divorce she has decided it was up to the children to communicate with me regarding the parenting schedule.  She has refused to communicate with me regarding my visitation with the children.  She has also refused to drive the children to see me so I am the only one driving the kids back and forth between our two homes, which I gladly do. About a year ago my former spouse and her new husband moved an hour away from where the two of us were living (we were living 6 blocks away from each other in the same community).  I begged and pleaded with her not to move so far away, knowing that this would hurt my relationship with our children. My pleas fell on deaf ears.

My children are teenagers now and have very busy and active lives.  I don’t see them as often as I like and I miss them. My former spouse continues to refuse the drive the children to see me and insist it is up to the children to determine if and when they will spend time with me, which these days is not very often. She insists if I want to see my children I should work it out with them. She takes absolutely no responsibility in making sure the children adhere to the visitation schedule. She refuses to participate in the parenting schedule leaving it all up to the children.

To make co-parenting matters worse, my former spouse refuses to communicate with me via phone, text or email and brought me back to court so that she may receive more child support even though there has been no material change in my employment situation. The child support was determined just over a year ago and since then my former spouse has been attempting repeatedly to try and get more child support.

I don’t think she understands the importance of a loving Father in the life of a child.

All I ever wanted to be was a Dad, a Father my children could count on.

That was taken away from me when I got divorced.  It is not the same Fathering a child from a distance.  Calling and texting them, occasionally seeing them or going to their activities and events is not the same as seeing them every day.

Mom’s, there are some Dads who love their children so much that they would do most anything they could to spend TIME with them.  If your former spouse is one of these Father’s, please help him get the TIME he needs to be around his children.  Your children are the ones who will benefit.  Children need both  a Mother and a Father, not just a Mother and not a Mother and a Step Father. A child has the right to know their Father. A Father has a right to parent their children.

Lets all just get along for the sake of the child.

God bless you all.  May he fill your life with peace, joy and happiness

I feel rejected by my children, written from a divorced Father's point of view.

Rejected by my children

Written from a divorced Fathers point of view.

Do you ever feel as though you are being rejected by your children? I do and it affects many aspects of my life.

I was divorced 2 ½ years ago and my children still left in the nest are 14 and 16.  My ex-wife moved away from the neighborhood we were living in a year ago to a part of the State that was approximately 1 hour diving distance away.  I begged and pleaded with her to not move the children away, much to my dismay, my voice was not heard.

I offered her plenty of reasons why it would be in the best interest of the children and my relationship with them that she and her new husband stay in the area so it would not be so difficult for me to see my children.

You see, my ex-wife refuses to drive the children to see me. So if I want to see my children, it is up to me to drive to see them and or pick them up to come and visit with me.  Even though the divorce decree indicates she needs to drive one way, she refuses to drive at all.

My weekly mid-week visitations since she moved do not occur at all, basically because my children suggest to me that they are to busy to see me and also because it would take me 2 hours round trip to drive and visit them which I would gladly do if they would allow me the time to just come up and see them, if even for a few minutes.

I am suppose to have my children with me every other weekend, but since the divorce, my ex-wife refuses to participate in making those weekends happen and suggest that it is up to the children if they want to come and see me.

For the record, my ex-wife does not want to communicate with me and tells me that all visitation communication is up to the children.

Correct me if I am wrong, but are my ex-wife and I the adults in the room?

My two children are extremely active teenagers and routinely tell me they have no time for me on the weekends.

To make matters worse, my daughters are very active in their church which makes seeing them very difficult on Sundays.

I take my responsibility of being a Father very seriously and want with all my heart to spend time with my children.

I also understand that my children are teenagers and choose to spend time with their friends and my ex-wife rather than spending time with me.

That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t hurt and that I feel rejected by my children, I do.

This year, my children have not spent an entire weekend with me.

In fact, I don’t think they have slept in my home more than a couple of times.

If you were to ask my ex-wife why the children are not spending time with me, she would say it is because it is because I don’t want to see them, that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

I love my children and this divorce is costing me the relationship I could have had with my children.  I knew this and that is why I did not want to get divorced. I knew that if I got divorced, my relationship with my children would suffer and it has.

It doesn’t help that my ex-wife moved an hour away and that my children are active teenagers.

What’s a man to do?  I can’t force my children to see me.  I suggest all the time to them that I want to be in their life.  I make an effort all the time to come to their activities, but yet, I don’t know of half the activities that they participate in.

I miss my daughters and love them with all my heart.  I feel so rejected by them.

When your own children who should love you unconditionally reject you, it is hard for me to believe anyone could actually love and accept me.

My friends tell me to be patient, that they are active teenagers and when they get older they will be back.  I don’t want to miss these years with them. I miss my children.

Everyone has struggles in life, how we deal with them makes all the difference.

I accept the fact that my children don’t want to spend time with me right now.  I accept that fact that their friends are more important to them than I am right now.  I accept the fact that my ex-wife has made it more difficult by moving away for me to see my children as frequently as I once did.  I just don’t like the facts.

Feeling rejected by your children is a feeling I know I own. I know my children are not purposely rejecting me.  I know my children don’t set out to reject me.  I know my children love me. I know my children when we are together love the time we spend together. For me, the time we do spend together is not enough and I am missing out on being a Father to my two children. Time I will never get back. I am missing them growing up and for that I am extremely sad.

I don’t blame my children.  I remember my teenage years, I didn’t spend a great deal of time with my parents, but then again, my parents were not divorced and I saw them every day. I don’t get to see my children every day.  I don’t get to experience breakfast or dinner with them, I don’t get to sit with them before they go to bed and ask them about their day and let them know I love them. I don’t get the opportunity to share their life and my life with them face to face and read the expressions on their face.

I miss my children, I love my children, I pray for my children.

I let them know all the time how important they are to me, until I see them again, that is all I can do.
