Latest Nutrisystems ad featuring Marie Osmond may be a little deceptive

Marie Osmond in her latest Nutrisystems ad said this...

Exercise, I hate exercise.

What is Marie really telling us...

Don't spend your money on stupid gyms or exercise equipment, spend you money with Nutrisytems.  Marie HATES to exercise and so should you!

She then goes on to say the following....

Losing weight is about 80% what you eat.

Well I would challenge that statement and refer you to a book written by Ruth Qullian Wolever, PHD and Beth Reardon, MS., R.D., L.D.N. with Trina Hannan titled, "The Mindful Diet".

There is a whole lot more to losing weight than simply what you eat.

I believe these women would take issue with Marie's statement that losing weight is about 80% what you eat. The Nutrisystems weight loss regimen should be a very small part of your weight loss goal if you choose to buy it.

Remember, Nutrisystems is in the business of making money and Marie is a paid spokesperson. Much of what they provide you is processed and many weight loss experts would suggest you limit the amount of processed foods you eat. Fresh foods are generally better. Processed foods are generally worse for you.

I did take time to Google what % of weight loss comes from diet and nutrition and what % comes from exercise.  Many of the websites I took a look at and took the time to read did indicate that proper diet and nutrition generally outweighed exercise in actual weight loss.  Most all of them however, indicated that diet and nutrition and exercise is optimum for achieving better weight loss.

Remember, Marie said, she hates exercise implying that you can achieve your weight loss objective primarily through purchasing the Nutrisystems diet.  Most dietitians and exercise professionals would generally disagree with Marie.

Lastly Marie said this.....

I owe my weight loss to Nutrisystems, 100%!

Marie has told us over and over that she has lost 50 pounds on the Nutrisystems diet. This statement that she lost all her weight (100%) using the Nutrisystems food implies she did absolutely nothing else.  She simply ate the food and lost the weight.  No exercise required?

I would question if this was in fact true.

Diet and exercise are important as well as how you view food, when you eat, why you eat and a variety of other reasons in achieving your weight loss objective.

I highly recommend you read the book mentioned above.  This book will in my opinion help you change your life.

One last thought.  Through my investigation into weight loss, I have come across a third component often overlooked.  I am not going to spend a lot of time on this post talking about it, I will save that for another post.  Briefly, the third component to weight loss is detoxification.  There are some experts who believe that detoxing the body represents 50% of your weight loss, nutrition 35% and exercise 15%.

You don't hear much about the importance of detoxification and the impact it has on your body.  That is because it is a little more difficult to explain and the dollars generated by sales are not as big as the exercise or weight loss industry. Our bodies require us to detox in order to operate efficiently.  The other reason you don't hear about it is because it generally requires you to eat fresh, natural foods and not processed foods, such as those supplied by weight loss companies (eg. Nutrisystems)

The food we eat, the air we breath, the liquids we drink, the medicines we take, the lotions and makeup we put on our skin, stress all add toxins to our body.  Ridding our body of these toxins will help us reach our weight loss goal.  Ignore detoxifying your body is not wise.  I will write more about this in my next blog post.

So when it is time for you to start your weight loss regimen, don't forget to detox the body. Diet and exercise is NOT enough.

More on the later.....

Good luck
