The
word that really started off this segment of writing is apathy.
What we see in
people today is a lack of emotion or indifference to the gospel, to the Lord
and to obey his commandments.
We
lead such busy lives that we don’t take the time to get to know the Lord. We
don’t pray often enough to even know if he is answering our prayers. We search
for that quick fix for that which ails (pains) us. It seems as though no one wants
to take the time to explore the inner recesses of one’s mind. It is easier to
take a pill, a drug, go on a diet, workout, stay busy, smoke, drink, and then
complain that we are not happy. We then look to blame someone else for our
misery so as to become the victim. People
relate to victims, people have sympathy and compassion for victims. People
accept and understand what it means to be a victim. We are all looking for
reasons to not grow, move on, from our state of misery or woe. Apathy in the church is rampant. People
seemed to be more concerned with being at soccer practice on time rather than
at Church on time. People will be a half hour early for a baseball game and 15
minutes late for Church. Do people really not care about the Lord, are they so disinterested
that other things in their life take on greater importance. The Lord knows
where our heart and our interest lie. He knows our every thought, word and deed
and the intentions behind them. Our quick fix society has segmented church
along with every other activity. If we have time for it, we will fit it in, if
not, oh well. Most people don’t have any understanding or appreciation for the
Lord. Sure they believe, but do they obey? Sure they say they know him, but do
they pray to him continuously? Sure they say they have been born again, but
where are the deeds? People say they worship the Lord, but fail to read the
bible. In fact many people spend more time reading the owner’s manual of their
new gizmo or gadget. What was the last book you read? Was it the bible, a
novel, a self- help book, a spiritual book, the newspaper, you don’t read
books?
Apathy
is killing our society
People
seem to not want to work at something anymore, if it doesn’t come easy, they
avoid it. No one seems to want to put the effort into knowing the Lord, it is
just too much work, besides it conflicts with a 100 other activities we have
planned. And they wonder why they are not happy. Happiness comes from loving
and serving the Lord. It doesn’t come from a bottle, a pill, a drug, a
cigarette, it doesn’t come from staying so busy you are exhausted at the end of
the day and too tired to pray, or read the scriptures. It doesn’t come from
serving others expecting to be served in return. Happiness comes from doing the
will and the work of the Lord, seeking eternal salvation as your reward. People
spend all kinds of time attempting to better themselves, to look better, feel
better, cook, clean, dress better, look younger, feel younger, and understand
themselves better. The list of betters could go on and on, suffice it to say
that for every minute you spend attempting to improve your lot in life as it
relates to living as part of this world, it will only bring you more misery and
pain because
we
can never live up to the world’s standards – ever!
So
why do we try? It is easier than having faith and believing in our Lord and
savior Jesus Christ. It is easier to understand and accept things we can see
than to understand and accept things we can’t see.
Secondly
most of us want to retain control over our lives rather than give our lives
over to the Lord. Again this seems easier to us, we continue to live in pain
and misery, but easier. Hebrews 11:1 Faith is being sure of what we hope for and
certain of what we do not see. Apathy has no place in our relation with the
Lord. We cannot afford to be indifferent when it comes to loving and serving
the Lord. It just won’t work.
I
just wanted to thank the Lord for a wonderful day. I wanted to thank you for
the many blessings I’ve received.
Love
is more than words, it is action. My
father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be
done on earth as it is in heaven, give me this day my daily bread and forgive
me my sins as I forgive those who have sinned against me, lead me not into
temptation and deliver me from the evil one. For thine is the kingdom and the
power and the glory now and forever. Amen. This is the day the Lord has made, I
will rejoice and be glad in it. Thank you for your love and support Lord, may
the Holy Spirit continue to guide and direct me in every way.
