praise, glory, honor, fear, humble, pride, boast
Lord’s
prayer - Matthew 6:9-13
9 “This, then, is how you should pray….
‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one”
Praise
We
need to give our Heavenly Father the praise, John continued us in John 12:43 – to be careful of loving
praise from men more than praise from God – we are called to praise God. 1 Peter 4:11 – So that in all things
God may be praised, Matthew 5:16 – That they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven. Glory Rev 4:11 – You are worthy,
our Lord and God to receive glory and honor and power… I Corinthians 10:31 – So whether you eat or drink or whatever you
do, do it for the Glory of God. I
Corinthians 24 – Nobody should seek his own good, but the
good of others.
Honor
Romans 12:9-21 – Subject
of love, love must be genuine. Hate what is evil, cling to what is good. Be
devoted to one another with brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
Proverbs 15:33 – The fear of the
Lord teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor. Humble – Matthew
23:12 – For whoever exalts himself
will be humbled and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. 1 Peter 5:6 – Humble yourselves,
therefore, under God’s mighty hand. 5:7
– Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 5:5 – God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. 5:8 – Be self-controlled and be alert your enemy, the devil prowls around.
Psalms 25:9 – He guides the humble in
what is right and teaches them his way.
Pride
Proverbs 8:13 – To fear the Lord is to hate evil. I hate pride and
arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. Proverbs
18:18-19 – Pride goes
before destruction… Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than
to share in the plunder of the proud. Daniel
4:37 – And those who walk in pride, he is able to humble.
Boast
Proverbs 77:1-2 Do
not boast about tomorrow for you do not know what the day will bring. Let
another praise you and not your own mouth. 1 Corinthians 1:31 – Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord. Galatians 6:14 – May I never boast
except in the cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 – For it is by grace you have been saved,
through faith and this is not of yourselves, it is a gift from God, not by
works so that no one can boast.
Fear
Deuteronomy 6:13
– Fear
the Lord your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. Proverbs 9:10 – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. 10:27 –
Fear of the Lord adds length to
life. 14:27 – The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life.
15:33 – The fear of the Lord teaches a man wisdom and humility comes before
honor. 16:6 – Through the fear of the
Lord a man avoids evil. 18:23 – The fear of the Lord leads to life, then one rest untouched by trouble.
23 Psalm – I will fear no evil. Deuteronomy
10:12 – Fear the Lord your God. –
Key verse. Deuteronomy 31:12 – Fear the Lord your God and follow carefully
all the words of his law.
