Routine and Habit

Routine and Habit

Routine – a series of activities performed regularly. Ordinary. According to standard procedure.

Habit – an often involuntary pattern of behavior acquired by frequent repetition. Usual practice or manner. An addiction.

We are all creatures of habit. We like a certain routine in our life and when that routine is broken we start to get anxious, nervous, angry, upset, frustrated, worried.

In life I believe we benefit from routine, daily goals or objectives are important. The one thing to look out for is when there are interruptions to our routine. I’ve noticed when I still have my reading or writing plus a nap to take I get very anxious when someone comes in to talk with me.

I just want to do my program, and then I will have time to talk. I know when I use to get home from work; my routine varies because of the needs of others. That is important too, to be flexible with your routine because not everything can happen at the same time interval each day.

Flexible – able to be bent or flexed, pliable. Responsive or adaptable to change.

Patience leads to flexibility and flexibility leads to patience.

When we are so focused on our own agenda we ignore the agenda and needs of others.

It is very difficult if not impossible for us to be of service to others when we are focused on our own agenda, needs, routine and program.

It is important to have daily objectives or goals, it is more important to be flexible, adaptable, to those needs and goals so that we can be in the service of others.

When we keep our focus on service, we lose our focus on self-gratification.

We develop more patience, become less anxious about the interruptions to our agenda. Our agenda should be to focus on the needs, wants and desires of others.

It will not kill us to put our needs on the back burner in order to satisfy the needs of others.

Lord I pray that when my routine is interrupted or delayed that you will provide me with the patience I require to put my needs on the back burner in order that I may be of service to others.

I find it very difficult to write, my hand stiffens up, my forearm stiffens up and I have to stop every few lines to let my hand and forearm relax. I think it stiffens because of my work. I am constantly using my hands and it becomes very difficult if not impossible to write after a day of work. It is also very difficult to keep a train of thought going this time of day. I much prefer to write in the mornings when it is quiet and it is easier to write on the weekends when I don’t have to work. I also find the pencils flow easier for my hand. I was writing on routine. I have been selfish with my time, thinking of my needs; wants and desires, it is not about me anymore.

In reality once I became a believer in Christ, it never was about me.

It now is about them.

My routine takes a back burner to the needs of others.

When we learn this we will be much happier, less frustrated, less angry with others, less short tempered, better listeners, more attentive to others.

The Lord has blessed us with 24 hours in a day in which to get our program accomplished. That is enough time to get done that which we perceive we need to get done.

Thank you Lord for this bit of inspiration. I love you Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

I will be patient, I will be adaptable, I will be flexible, and I will be in the service of others with love and a smile. I serve you Lord, today, tomorrow, forever.

Amen.
